THE MUSIC MEADOWS STORY

In 1968 Bill and Dorothy Parker with six kids in tow bought their “dream ranch” which was originally known as the “Beck Place”.  The family has been running yearlings on it ever since. Elin Parker Rusher, your host and trail-boss, has worked and managed the ranch for her family since high school and while attending Colorado State University to obtain her degree in Animal Science. Elin has four children who have all grown up in the ranching tradition. Ben and Autumn are both moving on with college or careers. Katlyn and Weldon are teenagers and living the life many kids only dream of . . . the life of a cowboy and cowgirl.

Over the years, three other Parker sisters and one Parker brother have uniquely contributed their efforts to the ranch. The most recent event in the history of the ranch was the decision the family made to place it into a Conservation Easement with the local San Isabel Land Protection Trust. Because of this great accomplishment, the entire ranch is now forever protected from development.

In 1995 Elin started offering guests a chance to step into the boots of a real cowboy or cowgirl. With encouragement from her friends to make the big step she says, “It has been nothing but good and has caused me to slow down a bit and see the wonder and beauty of it all through the eyes of my guests”. She prides herself in providing her guests with a truly integrated experience on a real ranch . . . never making up something to do . . . it’s always the real deal.

Music Meadows Ranch is located 12 miles south of the two small towns of Westcliffe and Silver Cliff. The community is busy year round hosting a Blue Grass and Western Festival, their award winning Stampede Rodeo and offering a variety of restaurants, shops and museums. Family members or friends that are not interested in the “horse and cattle” activities will find something fun and interesting to do at www.custercountyco.com.
